
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad city cyber crime police refunded Rs 53 lakh to a victim after an 84-year-old man was tricked into paying Rs 2.88 crore to fraudsters.
The case was filed in September 2024, which led the police to quickly freeze the transferred funds. They then requested the court for a refund. The court ordered the banks to return Rs 53 lakh, and the money was credited back to the victim’s account on Wednesday.
According to officer, “No police officer will make such calls.Only fraudsters do that. Never send money to them. Block these calls and report them immediately at helpline number 1930 or through the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal at cybercrime.gov.in.”
The police advised the public to remain cautious and report any suspicious calls immediately.
