HANUMAKONDA: A Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso) case has been registered against inspector, M Ravi Kumar, working in Hyderabad, for sexually harassing a minor girl when he was alone at his home.
Both of them are residents of Kazipet.
The incident, which occurred on Oct 9, only came to light after the girl’s parents lodged a complaint at the Kazipet police station on Tuesday night.
According to Kazipet sub-inspector V Lavan Kumar, both the accused and the minor girl are residents of the same apartment complex within the jurisdiction of Kazipet police.
On the day of the incident, Ravi Kumar, who lived on the same floor, spotted the girl speaking to her friend from the same apartment, Trinadh, on the corridor.
After questioning both of them, the accused demanded the girl send Trinadh and come to his flat. Out of fear, she complied.
Once inside his apartment, with no one else present, Ravi Kumar caught the minor girl and attempted to take her to the bedroom.
Despite her attempts to resist and escape, the accused continued to misbehave with her. However, she managed to break away and flee. Later, Kumar threatened her not to inform her parents and obtained her mobile number, verifying it through a missed call from his official mobile.
The incident happened when the minor girl visited her parents during the Dasara vacation from her studies in Hyderabad.
Later, when the minor revealed her parents about the ordeal, they swiftly filed a police complaint. A case has been registered against the accused under various sections, including 127(2), 75(2), 351(2) BNS and 9(a)v, 9(c) r/w 10 of the Pocso Act 2012, said sub-inspector Lavan Kumar.
