Refuelling in traditional ICE cars is very easy, as you can find fuel pumps almost everywhere. However it is not the same for CNG cars.
Type of CNG Stations:
1. Mother CNG Station
2. Online CNG Station
The above 2 Stations usually have good pressure and have more dispensers too. Some of these pumps operate 24/7. Also, they are almost never closed due to non-availibility of CNG.
3. Daughter Booster Station
4. Daughter CNG Station
The above 2 Stations are usually found in out of City areas. The pump pressure is also a bit lower than the Online pumps. At times within minutes after refuelling, I could see one bar reduction in the fuel gauge.
5. L-CNG Station
The challenge to refuel comes when you enter uncharted territory in a CNG car. Over the past 1.5 years covering more than 50,000 km in my Hyryder, I have seldom been there and it’s a pain to find a CNG pump. Yes, I have the option to run it on Petrol when it runs out of CNG but I try to find a CNG pump ASAP.
This is where Navgati app comes in. While playing football couple of years back, every friend raved about Shark Tank India. Until last year, I was never interested in watching the show. One day I decided to give it a watch and YouTube quite naturally suggested an automotive episode of the show.

Nawgati app shows you CNG pumps around you and also lets you plan and find pumps for long drives, just like while planning a drive in an EV. As and when there is a need for a fuel stop, just browse through the app and it will show you the pumps around you. You can navigate to the same via Apple Maps or Google Maps (no inbuilt navigation as of yet). The only drawback is that it doesn’t let you customise your route but instead chooses its own route.

CNG fuel prices vary a lot between cities.
Refuelled in Igatpuri @ ₹89.90/kg in the afternoon
Refuelled in Mumbai @ ₹75.01/kg in the evening on the very same day. I ran out of CNG both times, and it could fit different amounts of gas due to the pressure difference.
