Hyderabad: Woman dies, over 40 fall sick after eating momos from unlicensed street vendors – India News


Police arrested six people on Wednesday in connection with the death of a woman and the hospitalisation of more than 40 others after they allegedly ate momos from unlicensed street vendors in Hyderabad.

According to officials,the incident surfaced following complaints from victims’ families, prompting authorities to register two cases under charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, along with other relevant sections of the BNS Act. During the investigation, six men were arrested, police said, PTI reported.

A 31-year-old woman died on October 27, while 20 others were hospitalised after allegedly consuming momos from street vendors on October 25.

An earlier case had been registered after 20 individuals fell ill after eating momos prepared by the suspects, sold at various roadside stalls, police added.

According to a release by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), food safety officials, with assistance from police, traced the vendors and found they were operating without a license. Food samples have been sent to the state food laboratory for analysis, and officials ordered an immediate halt to the vendors’ operations.
