Lesson Learnt – “Procrastination cost money”
So another pleasant year passed away with our Access and now she is 12 years and 4 months old and has been serving us very well. The connection with her is so deep that I can tell whether she is running well or not whether the engine note is normal or not.
Odometer reading
Engine note change noticed
After covering 900 KM post service (previous) it started giving sign of service due, but as I covered more distance engine note went to normal around 1200 KM for a day or two and then it changed again. On 24 September, early in the morning, when I got the opportunity to do some good speed 70 KMPH (for 30 odd seconds) the engine note went to normal and the idle was refined. This happened 5-8 times in those 2200 KM. Any ideas why?
Service
This time, I was very late for the service usually I get the service done after 1K KM but this time I covered 2.2K KM due to being busy and rainy season I kept postponing the service, was even reminded twice by the Suzuki team to get the service done and they were little concerned as to why we are not getting the service done. (Nice gesture from them) Finally out of the blue I got it done on 25 September.
After 4 scratches on the headlight, 2 minor rubbing marks on the fender (below indicators not on the new one) and shaky speedometer needle below 30 KMPH (more on this later) it goes over potholes and speed bump like butter.
Total cost
Paid Rs 4650. The most money I paid for the service yet and I am okay with the cost. Second best was around Rs 24XX.
Major parts changed
Front fender (Cost – Rs 2606) and cone set (for Handle)(Suzuki official part name is Racer steering kit, see bill for part number) and rear taillight bulb too. If I remove the cost of fender and cone set, it would have been around Rs 1100.
Fender part number
Front fender replaced
This is the cone set.

Old fender
Speedometer & front brake wire rubbing
New fender quality
The most important thing is the paint matches with the rest of the body but the clear coat is not properly sprayed, has rough surface here & there. 12 years old fenders are smooth to touch where the brand new feels rough at some portion and has 3 minor imperfections.
Procrastination cost money
Usually I get parts/problems fixed, even minor, as soon as possible but I refrained because I knew they will remove the front fascia and there is no way they will put it together without any scratches, even I scratched the front fender as my hand slipped while clipping the turn signal wire during my DIY.
4 years ago, the price for the fender was around Rs 1400-1600. I didn’t get it replaced as technician said there is nothing wrong with the fender its almost new, all it does is shake so why spend that much money. I agreed and did a DIY using some glue (which lasted for 7 days)
The handle bar thing (back and forth play) which I explained in previous post kept coming back again and again and again (after 500 KM of getting it temporarily fixed during service) I got fed up and got it resolved plus while they were going to remove the front fascia I gave go ahead to do the fender too. Call it luck or destiny, they had only one fender in silver color and I didn’t think twice, its now or never.
I told the technician that I don’t like the way its hanging and make sure it doesn’t break the glass. He said that’s why I applied the cloth. (he did his duty but not diligently) I said its going to scratch it but he again said I am using a cloth. Didn’t want to argue much but exchanged few words after test drive about the speedometer needle. The thing is it was working fine (smooth and linear movement) but after service it was not and I am sure it happened because of the way the handle bar was hanging and I found 4 scratches on the headlight, after reaching home, I did my inspection but it was inevitable and I was sure and ready to see new scratches.
I have done 30 Services in past 12 years with ASS Suzuki Sonipat, the experience has been great for all those years and yeah they sometime mess up too (Scratches) but hey who doesn’t. Quite few times I was not satisfied and went back and they would address the issue. I highly suggest them.
Signing off with Team-BHP decal. (It’s the Suzuki Sticker that crooked)
