Encountered steering module malfunction on my 2 month old VW Virtus GT

The car has been with the service technicians for the past two days, and they are still trying to figure out what might have gone wrong.

BHPian SathyaV recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Hi All, Facing a strange issue with my Virtus GT MT and would like to share it with our TBHP folks.

My Virtus is exactly 2 months old and had covered less than 700 kms. A couple of days back I noticed an issue where the steering column controls and the horn stopped working. It was very clear that the system is not getting powered as even the backlight was not working.

In addition to this, got a message that there is an error with the Start/Stop system.

Hooked up my VCDS and did a full scan, there were issues with the steering control module which is not communicating with the gateway. Also got issues with the Local data bus which is not working as expected.

After doing a bit more digging, I discovered that the local data bus is one of the auxiliary data buses that control convenience and comfort features. I’m not sure how this data bus got impacted.

The car has been with the service technicians for the past two days, and they are still trying to figure out what might have gone wrong. They have confirmed that this will be claimed under warranty, so fingers crossed.

It’s really sad and frustrating to see your brand new car waiting at the service station with half the steering panels stripped and collecting dust, while you are in no position to expedite the repair process.
