Hyderabad: For the first time, Warangal and Karimnagar, two urban nodes of the state, are poised to get direct rail connectivity. Once completed, the stretch will be a major milestone in enhancing transportation links within state.
The Karimnagar-Hasanparthy new railway line in the erstwhile Warangal district is one of the important projects for which the final location survey (FLS) has been sanctioned by the railway ministry. The 62-km line, which is estimated to cost 1,116 crore, would connect important towns like Manakondur and Huzurabad with Hyderabad .

62-km rail line between Warangal & Karimnagar slated to cost 1k cr

Recently, Union minister of state for home affairs and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar called on Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to emphasise the need for expedited action on key railway projects for the Karimnagar-Hasanparthy line and the upgradation of Uppal station.
The railway minister has given a positive response for the swift progress of the project. Although Karimnagar has a railway station, it lacks long-distance services with only a few diesel electrical multiple unit (DEMU) trains running to Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Kacheguda, and Sirpur Kagaznagar. On the other hand, Warangal has good rail connectivity to most major cities across the country. However, towards Karimnagar, which is 70 km from the district headquarters, it has no rail link.
The people of these two districts have been dependent on RTC buses for their transportation needs and have been awaiting the establishment of a railway connection for several decades. The direct rail link has been a long-standing demand of the people of Karimnagar and Warangal, who have to rely on alternative modes of transportation to reach their destinations. At present, a bi-weekly express train runs between Karimnagar and Tirupati, covering a distance of 119 km from Warangal via Peddapalli junction in four hours.
“This will aid in the passenger movement to and from Hyderabad. The line facilitates granite industry to export their product via Kakinada port via this shorter route,” a senior railway officer said.
