OU students protest over poor quality hostel food

Hyderabad: Students of Osmania University’s PG college on Saturday protested against the poor quality of hostel food after several students reportedly fell ill. Over 40 students took part in a sit-in protest that lasted for about an hour on the college premises.
According to the protesting students, the mess has been serving leftover food from the previous night’s dinner for breakfast, which has led to food poisoning among several students.
“We have been complaining about the poor quality of food for weeks, but nothing has been done,” said one student, adding: “Many of us have experienced stomach problems and nausea after eating food that was clearly stale.” Echoing this, another student also said: “We have complained to the warden and the principal, but nothing has been done. Would they eat the same food we eat here at home?”
Meanwhile, several attempts to reach the college principal went unanswered.
Begumpet police station house officer C Ramaiah said, “The protest was peaceful and no arrests were made. The crowd was dispersed after an hour.”
