Hyderabad:Residents of a building in Chaderghat were confused when they heard a baby’s cry during the early hours, and informed the police. On reaching the spot and searching, the police were appalled to find an infant boy on the terrace. The infant was found to have been bitten by a cat.
Police rescued the boy and informed the child welfare committee. The baby is under observation at Niloufer Hospital.
Chaderghat sub-inspector Bharath said that it appeared that the infant was born a couple of hours previously. It was suspected that the baby was born elsewhere and abandoned on the terrace as the space was found clean.
While the infant was covered with birth fluids, the umbilical cord was not detached properly. “There is a possibility that someone might have entered terrace by climbing the wall of the adjacent building,” police said. “Due to the fluids on the infant body, a cat bit his ear.”
“We received the information at 6.30 am,” Bharath said. The police registered a case under Section 93 of the BNS and launched a probe.
Police teams are looking for suspicious movements in and around the area for people who could have abandoned the infant. Suspecting that the mother could have given birth at a government hospital, nearby health hospitals were informed. The teams are also looking into the list of local hospitals and anganwadis to find anything suspicious.
