Maharashtra government formation: Shinde said he and his party will accept decision of BJP high command on the Maharashtra CM post and added that there is no “speed breaker” in the alliance
Maharashtra government formation: As suspense mounts over the chief minister’s post in the Mahayuti government, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday cleared the air around the top position stating that a decision in this regard will be taken soon.
He is likely to visit the national capital soon where he may meet the party’s top leadership.
Will Fadnavis Be Next CM? He Reacts
Speaking to the media, he said that senior leaders are carrying out discussions on the top post and will arrive at a decision soon.
“The discussion on the Chief Minister’s post will get an answer soon. The leaders of all three parties will decide together. The discussions of the seniors are going on,” he said.
Fadnavis said that first the name of the Chief Minister will be finalised, which will then be followed by the names of the ministers.
The BJP leader will first visit Sambhajinagar to attend a private function and then attend another event in Nagpur. He is likely to visit Delhi thereafter where he is expected to meet the top leadership of the party.
Everyone In BJP Wants Fadnavis As CM: Bawankule
Maharashtar BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule said everyone in the Bharatiya Janata Party wants Devendra Fadnavis to be the Chief Minister.
“The workers of the allied parties in the Mahayuti want their leaders to be the Chief Minister. The leaders of all the three parties will sit together and decide. A BJP worker never gets upset with the decision taken by the central leadership. Their decision is final. Party leaders make the right decision. The Chief Minister of Mahayuti will take oath soon. Bawankule also pointed out that when Uddhav Thackeray betrayed the BJP, it took him a month and a half to form the government,” he said.
Shiv Sena MP Gives Nod To BJP Over CM Post
Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske affirmed that the camp is with the Mahayuti and will not break away “like Uddhav Thackeray” even if Fadnavis is made the CM.
“We are not Uddhav Thackeray who will go away if we are not given the chief minister post,” Mhaske said on Wednesday.
The Mahayuti returned to power with a huge majority, winning 234 seats out of 288 in the Assembly Elections as the results were announced on November 23.
The alliance had stated in the run-up to the elections that they are contesting the polls under Eknath Shinde’s leadership and a decision on the CM post will be taken after the declaration of results.
Shinde, hours into the announcement of results on November 23, had said that a decision on the CM post would be taken by the leaders of the alliance.
He resigned as the chief minister on Tuesday and will continue as the caretaker CM until the formation of the new government. The term of the outgoing Assembly ended on Tuesday, increasing the necessity to swear in the new government soon.
Sources said on Wednesday that Shinde has demanded the Home Ministry department if he is not given the post of chief minister.
