Hyderabad: Demanding the University Grants Commission (UGC) recognition, scores of Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University students staged a huge protest on the university campus.

A large number of students with placards that read ‘education without recognition is injustice’ sat in front of the university main gate. Students expressed their apprehensions as to what value their certificates would hold without the UGC’s recognition. They demanded the State government and university administration to seek UGC recognition immediately for the varsity.

During the then BRS government regime, the Osmania University College for Women popularly known as Koti Women’s College was upgraded into a university. While the Congress government renamed the university as the Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University, it is yet to seek the UGC’s recognition.
