The city police seized 122.042 kg of ganja and arrested four of seven accused.
The accused were identified as Dhanjay Kumar, Praduman Ray, Indradev Ray and Santosh Kumar of Bihar, Shankar Pujari of Odisha, and Rajeshwar and Parvez of New Delhi.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, the Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajitha Vejendla said that on receipt of reliable information about the possession of contraband at Atchiyammapeta of Allipuram in the city on December 1, their team conducted a raid along with mediators, and found possession of two boxes packed with white sheets and three yellow plastics bags.
On verification of the boxes and bags, and the identity of the persons, they found courier label on the packets, addressed to Delhi. In each box, there were 10 packets (each packet weighing 10 kg), totalling 43.278 kg of ganja to be transported to Delhi.
The three plastic bags, containing 44 packets wrapped with brown colour tape, weigh about 78.764 kg of ganja.
“The weight of 64 packets of ganja was 122.042 kg. All the four accused belong to Vaishali of Bihar. They were arrested and sent in judicial remand. The investigation is going on,” Ms. Ajitha Vejendla said.
