No Plans for Indian Institute of Management in Telangana, Says Union Minister | Hyderabad News

No plan for IIM in T’gana: Union min

Hyderabad: The Centre said it does not have any plans to establish or grant an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) to Telangana as of now.
In response to a question posed by Mahabubabad Congress MP Balram Naik, the Centre said in Parliament that several other central institutition were operating in Telangana. Union minister of state for education Sukanta Majumdar did not give a specific response.
Instead, he provided a list of many other institutes in Telangana and mentioned how many other IIMs were functioning across the country. “At present, there are 21 IIMs, out of which seven IIMs (categorised as third generation) were established from 2015. Moreover, the Union ministry of education runs University of Hyderabad, Indian Institute of Technology, English and Foreign Language University and Maulana Azad National Urdu University in Telangana,” the minister said.
In addition, Parliament recently amended the Central Universities Act, 2009, for setting up the Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University in Mulugu at a cost of Rs 890 crore, the minister said in his reply. He, however, did not mention a word about an IIM in Telangana, which seems to indicate that the Centre does not have any plans to set up the institute in the state as yet.
