Bengaluru to Coorg & back on my Yamaha Aerox: A relaxed 550 km ride

  • Date – 28 Nov 2024
  • Destination – Madikeri
  • Total kilometers – ~550kms
  • Route – Bengaluru – Channarayapatna – Holenarasipur – Kushalnagar – Madikeri (BigCup Cafe) – Retraced same route back home

Last week of November brings an extra holiday for folks working with US clients. So here I was looking at a long weekend with no fixed plans, plans which were too dicey given the effects of cyclone – which automatically ruled out TN. As I visited Kerala just last month and Goa before that, these locations were also ruled out. Random brainwave encouraged me to take up a day long ride to some location, which was not yet decided.

When I woke up on 28th Nov, I recalled folks mentioning Madikeri/Coorg and this was a place I have not visited ever since I landed in Bengaluru. That was it. Quickly packed up bare essentials, arranged it in the tail bag, put the rain gear in the storage and off I went at 5:00 am. Destination: coffee plantation country.

Roads were nice all the way till the diversion at Channarayapatna. I also encountered some morning fog but none of it was too much of a bother. Post this, the roads deteriorated for a while then improved slightly and this cycle kept repeating. However much of the route was good to excellent. Thumbs up!.

I arrived at the Big Cup Cafe around 10:30and had a lazy breakfast and couple of coffees and lazed around for around and hour post which I started my way back home. There were clouds in the horizon and I was half prepared to get caught in the rain but thankfully the rain stayed away and once I climbed back on the main Hassan – Bengaluru it was a child’s play reaching home by 4:00pm.

Aerox performed flawlessly although gulped a lot of fuel. I averaged around 40kmpl and I rode at speeds of 85-95kmph throughout on the smooth sections. As I have been riding frequently since monsoons ended, did not feel a lot of fatigue.

On to the next ride now.

Few pictures for memories
