Hyderabad: As part of the Centre’s initiative to eliminate TB, Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy on Saturday launched a 100 days intensive TB campaign in nine districts of Telangana starting from December 7 at the State TB Training and Demonstration Center here.
Speaking on the occasion, Kishan Reddy underscored the need for creating awareness about TB symptoms, empowering patients, covering all the diagnosed TB patients for nutritional support and addressing stigma as critical interventions for TB elimination.
He called all the government departments, private sector and NGO partners to come together for TB elimination. The Central government was launching a 100 days intensive campaign under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with the aim to make a significant reduction in the incidence and mortality rate of tuberculosis as an intensified campaign under broader objective for TB elimination in India.
A total of 347 districts were identified under this intervention in the country. In Telangana this program is being implemented in nine districts – Adilabad, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Karimnagar, Mahbubnagar, Medak, Nagarkurnool, Pedappalli, Suryapet and Wanaparthy.
Kishan Reddy appreciated the efforts being made by the State towards TB elimination and agreed to extend all the support needed for the TB elimination in the State.
Kishan Reddy appreciated the role TB survivors are playing in the form of TB Champions for awareness and counselling of the other TB patients who are on treatment. He felicitated a few TB champions and also distributed food baskets to some TB patients who are on treatment. During the event, Kishan Reddy also launched awareness posters.
