HYDERABAD: Fifteen students at Sri Chaitanya School in Chintal fell ill after inhaling fumes from acid that spilled in the school’s third-floor washroom. The fumes spread to a nearby classroom, causing the students to feel unwell. The management took them to local hospitals.
In a video, one student shared that he had blood in his vomit. Parents were upset because they were not informed about the incident and were unaware that their children were taken to the hospital. This led to protests outside the school as parents demanded answers and action.
Principal Bhargavi stated that the condition of the students was stable, and they had been sent home with their parents.
The Jeedimetla police registered a case regarding the incident. Jeedimetla station house officer G. Mallesh stated, “We received a call around 12.30 pm saying that acid used to clean the washroom tiles caused strong fumes and flames, which made many students feel suffocated. Around 20-25 children were affected.”
The police have registered a case under Sections 125(a) and 286 of the BNS and are investigating the cause of the incident. They said that the affected students were stable and had been discharged from the hospital. The police warned the school to exercise greater caution in the future.
