Hyderabad: A 19-year-old boy lodged a complaint with the Saidabad police on Saturday that he was touched inappropriately by a traffic policeman, to whom he was giving a lift, near RTC Colony on Friday.
The teenager posted on Reddit about his ordeal as a traffic cop stopped him for a lift while he was taking a U-turn at the RTC Colony.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the teenager said, “My father had forgotten his phone at a pharmacy in Greenpark Colony. So I went there to get it back. While I was taking a U-turn at RTC Colony on my way back, a man, dressed in civil dress, pointed at the cop who was calling me. He looked around 45-50 years old and was on the other end of the road. I was not wearing my helmet and thought of escaping. But I went to him with my vehicle.”
The cop asked the teen to drop him at Champapet crossroads as he had to hand over his walkie talkie set to another cop, and then to Bairamalguda.
“At first, I felt weird, but I agreed, respecting his age. Initially he looked friendly and asked me basic questions like my name, academic status, and all. However, as we were about to reach the destination, he started taking his hands closer to private parts. I felt really uncomfortable, but I blamed it on driving fast and his age. Within seconds, he started touching me. I looked down, and he quickly moved his hands to my stomach. At this point, I was nervous,” the teen said.
“He did it again and I finally had to ask him to keep his hands above. He quickly shifted his hands to my shoulder and said he was taking a lift only because he has a rod in his leg and that he could not drive.”
The teen dropped him near Champapet where he handed the walkie talkie to another cop. “He insisted that I drop him near Bairamalguda. I tried to excuse myself. I also wanted to call him out on the road, but I was afraid that he would make an excuse about me driving helmetless,” the 19-year-old said.
In the meantime, the victim managed to record a voice clip of the conversation that took place between the cop and him. “I dropped him at his destination and left immediately. I was so embarrassed and agitated at the same time and so put it on social media,” the victim said.
Responding to the victim’s post on platform X, the Rachakonda police and the Hyderabad traffic police reached out to him. Following this, on Sunday, the victim had filed a written complaint (a copy of which Deccan Chronicle possesses) at the Saidabad police station.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Saidabad inspector Raghavender said, “We have taken the victim’s complaint into consideration and will be verifying CCTV footage and other proofs. We are also taking legal advice as we have never come across a case like this and will be registering a case accordingly.”
