Vijayawada: In a significant development for the education sector in Andhra Pradesh, the Central govt approved the establishment of eight new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) in the state, creating opportunities for approximately 7,680 students. The decision was made during the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which sanctioned the opening of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country. Andhra Pradesh and Odisha were the top beneficiaries, each receiving eight new schools.
The sanctioned Kendriya Vidyalayas in Andhra Pradesh will be established at several key locations. These include Anakapalli, the district headquarters of Anakapalli district, Vahalipally village in Madanapalle of Chittoor district, Palasamudram village in Sathyasai district, Thallapalli village in Macharla mandal of Guntur district; Nandigama in NTR district, Nuziveedu in Eluru district; Rompicherla in Narasaraopeta division, and Done town in Nandyala district.
A total of ₹5,872 crore will be allocated for the construction of the 85 new schools nationwide, with each school accommodating up to 960 students. The move addresses the limited number of CBSE-affiliated schools in Andhra Pradesh, which was a long-standing concern. Education experts welcomed the decision, emphasizing that Kendriya Vidyalayas provide high-quality education and primarily cater to children of central govt employees.
In the past, competition for seats in Kendriya Vidyalayas was intense in AP, often requiring recommendation letters from MPs and ministers due to limited availability. This new allocation is expected to ease the admission process and meet the growing demand for quality education. Despite the new additions, there is still a strong demand for more Kendriya Vidyalayas in major cities like Vijayawada, Guntur, Tirupati, Rajahmundry, and Visakhapatnam to further enhance the state’s educational infrastructure.
