As part of the H-CITI project aimed at transforming Hyderabad into a cosmopolitan city, Principal Secretary of the State Municipal and Urban Development Department M. Dana Kishore, emphasised immediate measures to ease traffic congestion across the city.
In a meeting at the National Institute of Urban Management (NIUM), Mr. Kishore directed officials to prioritise the removal of 4,100 electricity poles obstructing 125 major traffic junctions within the next three months and expedite the beautification of these junctions.
He also instructed officials to fast-track the construction of flyovers and underpasses at six critical junctions around KBR Park, part of H-CITI Phase-1. These projects, costing about ₹1.2 crore, aim to significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks in the area. Officials were directed to initiate the tender process for these projects immediately and submit a detailed report on land acquisition and compensation requirements.
To ensure coordination across various departments, GHMC Commissioner Ilambarithi has been tasked with forming an “H-CITI Project Implementation Inter-Departmental Coordination Committee.” This committee will include representatives from Traffic police, Engineering, Electricity, Water Board, Telecom, Town Planning and other key departments.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) for Hyderabad Vishwa Prasad highlighted the importance of integrating traffic management strategies into all infrastructure plans. Cyberabad Joint CP (Traffic) Joel Davis also emphasised the need for a streamlined approach to mitigate disruptions during project execution.
Officials were instructed to prepare a road development plan for each project, ensuring that utilities obstructing the work are relocated before construction begins. Principal Secretary Kishore underlined the necessity of completing tenders swiftly to avoid delays.
The H-CITI project, with a total budget of ₹3,500 crore, includes 38 road development and infrastructure initiatives, alongside ₹150 crore allocated for junction beautification. A follow-up meeting to finalise phased action plans will be held at NIUM next Thursday.
