The chief minister announced that the 125th birth anniversary of Potti Sriramulu will be celebrated on a grand scale in the state. A memorial will be developed not only at Potti Sriramulu’s native place but also in Amaravati, he said on Sunday.
“We are striving for exemplary governance inspired by the ideals of great personalities like Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu. Continuous welfare steps and economic development are achievable with a stable government,” Naidu said.
He was addressing a special event the Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu Aatmarpana Dinam (Soul Sacrifice Day), held at the Tummalapalli Kalakshetram here.
Naidu and deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan paid floral tributes to the statue of Potti Sriramulu and garlanded a photo of Sardar Vallabhabhi Patel.
The two paid rich tributes to the valiant freedom fighter at a programme got up at Tummalapalli Vari Kshetrayya Kalakshetram in Vijayawada. The occasion was memorial day of Potti Sriramulu sacrificing his life, resulting in the formation of the unified Andhra Pradesh state.
“For a full 58 days, Sriramulu was on a dedicated hunger strike ultimately sacrificing his life which led to the formation of linguistic states in the country,” Naidu recalled.
Naidu said that a situation was once created in the state when people could not discuss anything freely. “Even developmental works at the native place of Potti Sriramulu were withdrawn. We have been striving hard for the past six months to take the state on a progressive path. In fact, the spirit of legendary personalities is inspiring us to take the state forward,” he said.
Acknowledging that the entire credit of organising grama sabhas in a successful manner in a single day across the state went to Pawan Kalyan, the CM felt that he is fortunate enough to participate in programmes like this to honour an exalted personality like Potti Sriramulu.
