Police launch search after toddler goes missing from Andhra’s Krishna district

A two-and-a-half-year-old girl belonging to the Chenchu tribe has been missing from Lankamma Manyam Colony in the town for the past two days. The girl has been identified as Avula Divya.

Following a search in the colony, her parents—Avula Gopi and Kondalamma—lodged a complaint with the Avanigadda police.

“The family was staying in a hut on Nagayalanka canal bund. The girl went missing when the parents were out fishing,” said Krishna Superintendent of Police R. Gangadhar Rao.

Speaking to The Hindu on Monday, Avanigadda Deputy Superintendent of Police P. Muralidhar said special teams have been formed to trace the girl. “The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) 10th Battalion has been pressed into service to search the canal,” the DSP said.

Searches were on till late into Monday night when the reports last came in.
