Chase fame, not fortune, President tells young docs at AIIMS | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: President Droupadi Murmu advised medical students to give priority to fame if they got an opportunity to choose between fame and fortune. Addressing the first convocation of AIIMS-Mangalagiri on Tuesday, she appreciated the young doctors for joining the path of serving humanity by choosing the medical profession, and asked them to serve people from rural and tribal areas and play a big role in building the nation.
Noting that the initial batch of any higher education institute creates its identity, she told the MBBS graduates of the first batch that they should consider themselves fortunate for being the first brand ambassadors of AIIMS-Mangalagiri and bring laurels for the institute in the medical fraternity, society, country, and abroad.
“Indian doctors have achieved a leading position in the world’s developed countries due to their talent and hard work. People from other countries visit India to take advantage of the medical facilities available here. India is developing as a major centre of affordable medical tourism on the world stage and doctors have a major role to play in this development,” the President said, while advising the young doctors to pay attention to three common things to achieve success and respect — service orientation, learning orientation, and research orientation.
Reminding the students that prayers are offered for longevity and to remain disease-free and healthy in Indian tradition, she said she felt happy to note that the motto of AIIMS-Mangalagiri — ‘Sakal Swasthya Sarvada’ — is inspired by the ideals of holistic healthcare and healthcare for all. “Life and health are interconnected. This approach focuses on holistic health. The relentless promotion of holistic health and ensuring health for all should be the guiding principle of every medical professional in this institute,” President Murmu said.
Medical science is facing new challenges daily due to changing times and circumstances, she said, adding that new solutions are required to face such challenges.
“The cytogenetics laboratory at AIIMS-Mangalagiri is an effort in this direction. I hope this institute will focus on research and develop newer treatments by using this laboratory,” she said.
Congratulating the young doctors for receiving their degrees, she again asked them to dedicate themselves to continuous learning, and keeping their capabilities at par with the best and the latest.
“I find that nearly two-thirds among you are young lady doctors. My special congratulations to these daughters who have made us proud. I convey my special appreciation to the young doctors who have been awarded gold medals. Among the medal winners too, our daughters have accounted for the larger share of the glory. The rising participation of women in the medical profession and their significant contributions demonstrate that we are becoming a truly developed society,” the President added.
CM N Chandrababu Naidu assured to extend the fullest support of the state govt for the development of AIIMS.
