Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed when GHMC town planning teams, amidst heavy police bandobast, on Wednesday started demolishing footpath encroachments including shops that have occupied pavements at Laxmiguda in Mailardevpally.
The town planning officials along with local police reached the spot with earthmovers and staff to take up the demolition on the route between Laxmiguda towards Vambay Colony on both sides of the road.
According to police officials, several complaints were made by the locals regarding illegal structures and shops occupying the pavements, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and traffic congestion in the area.
However, the shopkeepers and vendors raised strong objections to the demolition and picked up arguments with the civic authorities resulting in tense moments.
Meanwhile, Rajendranagar MLA Prakash Goud visited the Laxmiguda and enquired with the officials on the demolition drive. According to local residents, the MLA left the place after requesting the GHMC Town Planning wing to stop the demolitions.
