Maruti e Vitara Coming Next Month

The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, essentially the production version of the eVX concept, recently made its global debut via official pictures. This born-electric midsize SUV will be showcased publicly at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025. However, its market launch is likely to take place in March 2025. The Maruti e-Vitara will be the first EV from the Indo-Japanese automaker in India and will compete against the MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, and the upcoming Mahindra BE 6 and Hyundai Creta EV.

Two Battery Options!

The carmaker has confirmed that the Maruti e-Vitara will be offered with two battery packs – 49kWh and 61kWh – paired with a single electric motor as standard. The batteries use BYD’s Blade cell technology with LFP (lithium-iron phosphate) chemistry. The smaller 49kWh battery version with a front axle-mounted motor produces a claimed power of 144bhp and 189Nm of torque. The larger 61kWh battery offers two configurations: single motor: 174bhp and 189Nm of torque and dual motor (AWD): 184bhp and 300Nm of torque.

While Maruti Suzuki hasn’t revealed the exact range, the e-Vitara is expected to offer a range of over 500 km on a full charge. The larger battery pack can also be paired with the AllGrip-e AWD system, which comes exclusively with the dual-motor variant. This AWD version will include a Trail mode for off-road capability.

Lots of Goodies On Offer!

The interior of the new Maruti e-Vitara is entirely distinct from other Maruti Suzuki models currently sold in India. It features a floating dual-screen setup (one for infotainment and the other for instrumentation) with a new operating system. The cabin includes a floating center console with a gloss black finish, two USB ports, a twin-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel, a rotary drive mode selector, rectangular AC vents with brushed silver surrounds, and an electronic parking brake with an auto-hold function. The seats feature a combination of fabric and leatherette upholstery.

The e-Vitara is packed with features, including single-zone automatic climate control, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a wireless phone charger, and more. Additionally, it may become the first Maruti Suzuki vehicle in India to offer an ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite. ADAS features could include lane-keep assist and adaptive cruise control. On the safety front, the electric SUV provides side and curtain airbags, Isofix child seat mounts, adjustable headrests, and three-point seatbelts for all passengers.

How Big It is?

Design-wise, the new Maruti e-Vitara closely resembles the eVX concept, albeit with some toned-down elements. The AWD variant is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225/50 R19 tyres, while lower variants feature 18-inch alloy wheels. The new Maruti electric SUV measures 4,275mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,635mm in height. It sits on a 2,700mm long wheelbase and offers a ground clearance of 180mm. The SUV has a kerb weight ranging between 1,702kg and 1,899kg, depending on the variant.

Price Expectations

Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat-based manufacturing facility will serve as the production hub for the e-Vitara, with nearly 50% of the total production earmarked for export to Japan and Europe. Prices for the new Maruti electric SUV are expected to start at around Rs 20 lakh for the base variant, with the fully-loaded top variant (featuring the 61kWh battery, dual motors, and e-AllGrip AWD) priced near Rs 25 lakh.
