CM Fadnavis gave information
CM Devendra Fadnavis has given information on this accident in Mumbai. He said, “A naval boat collided with the passenger ship ‘Neelkamal’ at Butcher Island near Mumbai at around 3.55 pm. According to the information till 7.30 pm, 101 people have been rescued safely and 13 people have died. Of the 13 dead, 10 are civilians and 4 are seriously injured. The Navy, Coast Guard and Police have launched a rescue operation. Final information about the missing people will be given tomorrow morning. An ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh will be given to the bereaved families. The entire incident will be investigated by the Police and Navy. Will be done by.”
Relief and rescue started immediately
Let us tell you that immediately after the incident, a rescue operation was carried out to save the people in the boat. Efforts to rescue people were made with the help of the Navy, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), Coast Guard, Yellow Gate Police Station and local fishermen.
Navy’s statement came out
In its statement, the Navy said that this afternoon, an Indian Navy speed boat lost control due to engine failure while undergoing inspection in Mumbai Harbour. Due to this it collided with a tourist ship which later overturned. So far 13 people have lost their lives in this accident.
The Navy statement said that those rescued during the incident have been taken to the nearest hospital. Rescue efforts were started immediately after the incident. Four naval helicopters, 11 naval ships, one coast guard boat and three maritime police vessels have been deployed to rescue survivors.
CM took cognizance
Regarding this accident in Mumbai, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that we have received information about the accident of a boat named Neelkamal going towards Elephanta Island. Boats of Navy, Coast Guard, Port and Police teams have been immediately dispatched for assistance.
He said that we are in constant touch with the district and police administration and fortunately, most of the civilians have been rescued. However, the rescue operation is still going on. Orders have been given to the district administration to deploy all necessary machinery for the rescue operation.
President expressed grief
President Draupadi Murmu wrote on social media platform X that I am shocked and saddened to know about the accident that took place between a passenger ferry and a craft boat of the Indian Navy near Mumbai Harbour. My condolences are with the families of those who have lost their lives. I pray for the speedy success of the rescue and relief operations and the speedy recovery of the survivors.
What did the officials say?
Regarding this incident, officials said that 8 ships of the Indian Navy have been deployed in the search operation in the area where the boat accident took place. Four of the six people on board the naval boat that collided with the boat have died, while one of them is seriously injured. There were about 110 passengers on board the ferry, including 20 children. More details are being ascertained.
Deputy CM gave instructions
Regarding the accident, Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde said that an incident of sinking of a passenger boat took place in Elephanta area of Mumbai this evening and information about the rescue operation was taken from the district collectors of Mumbai city and Raigarh. Navy, JNPT, Coast Guard and local fishing boats have been directed to intensify rescue operations and concerned agencies have been directed to safely rescue all persons on board the damaged boat.
PMO announced compensation
The Prime Minister’s Office has announced an assistance amount of Rs 2-2 lakh to the families of the victims and Rs 50-50 thousand to the injured. This information has been given on social media platform X.
