Churches in the city have been lining up weekend programmes to usher in Christmas all December. Members of St. John’s CSI Church took part in a candlelight service on Sunday, December 22, and the Christmas Carols sung by the choir team stood as the highlight of the programme.

Led by the Presbyter in-charge, Rev Amal Johnson, and choirmaster Thomas Philip, the choir team sang classical Christmas songs, turning the evening worship into a joyous celebration. Professor Regi George’s special Christmas message spoke of the wisdom shown by wise men as they came in search of the Saviour.

Children, who are an integral part of the Church, also gave a scintillating performance at the Church Christmas. A special skit and the scene of the Nativity brought out the best in them.

“Christmas is a season of great joy, a time for remembering the past and hoping for the future. We pray that the glorious message of peace and love fills the world with joy during this wonderful season,’’ said Rev. Amal Johnson.

The district, one of the earliest Christian missionary fields in the country, is home to some of the oldest Churches. It is also the headquarters of the Andhra Lutheran Evangelical Church and the seat of the Catholic diocese district.
