Hyderabad: Two chain-snatchers, including a minor, were arrested by the Vikarabad police from Karnataka on Tuesday for their involvement in a series of thefts in Telangana and Karnataka.
Police said that the main accused MD Javid (35) and his juvenile accomplice were arrested from a lodge in Humnabad taluk of Bidar district in Karnataka.
According to the police, the duo committed three chain snatchings within two days in Vikarabad district, targeting lone women between 12 noon and 4 pm. The accused, operating under the influence of intoxicants, used pepper spray and hunting knives to threaten their victims. The duo used evasion techniques like changing number plates, switching mobile phones and operating only at certain times.
Police recovered 10 tolas of gold worth about Rs 7,80,000, along with pepper spray and knives. The recovered items were linked to cases registered at Vikarabad, Sadashivpet and Zaheerabad police stations.
According to police, Javid has around 150 cases registered against him in various districts of Telangana and Karnataka.
