Tata Punch, the subcompact SUV from the indigenous automaker, is set to become India’s top-selling car in 2024, according to data from Jato Dynamics. The micro SUV has recorded a combined annual growth rate of 73 percent since its market debut, making it the fastest car to achieve this milestone. By the end of this year, the Punch is likely to clock total sales of 200,678 units, surpassing the Maruti WagonR, which recorded sales of 187,225 units. It has also outsold cars like the Maruti Swift, Baleno, Fronx, Brezza, Ertiga, Hyundai Creta, and its own elder sibling, the Nexon.
Remarkable sales growth since launch
The Tata Punch was first introduced in October 2021 in four personas: Pure, Adventure, Accomplished, and Creative. It received an overwhelming response from buyers from the outset, which enabled it to achieve the 100,000-unit production milestone within 10 months of its launch. These sales figures doubled by May 2023, and its cumulative sales reached 458,000 units by October 2024.
Upcoming facelift in 2025
The mini SUV hasn’t undergone any major facelifts or generational shifts so far, except for minor feature upgrades. However, media reports suggest that the carmaker is planning to launch the Punch facelift with significant changes inside and out in 2025. The new 2025 Tata Punch facelift is expected to feature slightly improved styling and a range of new features while retaining its existing engine setup.
What works in its favour?
The Tata Punch has always been favored for its unique styling, offering hatchback-like agility with an SUV-like stance. Furthermore, its 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP is one of the major contributors to its popularity and high sales. To attract buyers, Tata offers multiple variants and customization packages with the micro SUV. Compared to its arch-rivals, the Punch provides excellent value for money, appealing to budget-conscious SUV buyers.
