Crime rate rising, public safety declining in Cong rule: Harish

Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS MLA T Harish Rao on Sunday expressed concern that during the Congress tenure, there is a 22.5% increase in the crime rate compared to last year. He highlighted a staggering 28.94% rise in rape cases, with 2,945 incidents reported in the past year, averaging eight per day.
In a press statement, he pointed out that kidnapping and abduction cases surged by 82%, which he described as shameful. “Women’s safety and dignity are at high risk. Public safety under the Congress govt is in a shambles, reflecting a severe failure in governance,” he stated.
Harish Rao mentioned that despite the expertise of the Telangana police, the evident governance failure under chief minister A Revanth Reddy, who also oversees the home department, is troubling. He accused the Congress govt of misusing police resources for political vendetta, stifling dissent, and harassing opposition voices on social media instead of focusing on public safety and justice.
To improve policing, Harish Rao suggested the timely release of funds to the police department, strengthening the force, and concentrating on crime prevention to ensure swift justice. “Telangana deserves leadership that values safety over petty politics,” he asserted.
