Mobile Fish Retail Outlets (MFROs) to be handed over to SHG members on January 3.

Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) will hand over the Mobile Fish Retail Outlets (MFROs) sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Samrudhi Yojana (PMMSY) and Blue Revolution to the beneficiaries at a ceremony at Praja Bhavan on January 3, 2025. Financial support for the initiative is being extended through the Indira Mahila Shakti programme, with the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) facilitating bank loans as part of the beneficiary contribution. As part of the first phase, 32 units — one per district — have been sanctioned. Each unit costs ₹10.38 lakh, including fabrication, with a 60% subsidy amounting to ₹6 lakh per unit. Beneficiaries selected by the District Fisheries Officer and the District Rural Development Officer (DRDO) with the approval of the respective District Collectors, are SHG women actively engaged in fish retail.

The mobile units are equipped to store and sell raw fish, as well as to prepare and market various fish dishes at strategic locations, including markets and public spaces. This initiative aims to empower women by providing them with sustainable income-generating opportunities while promoting fish consumption across the State.
