Fun, joy and fervour marked New Year celebrations in the city on Wednesday.

As anticipated, hundreds of people from across the city congregated at the stretch between The Park Hotel Junction to NTR Statue to welcome the New Year. Police had restricted vehicle entry in between the stretch. As the clock struck midnight, revellers broke out into dances on the road and burnt firecrackers.

Many families spent a quiet time outdoors, sitting along the parapet wall on Beach Road, and watched the revelries till late night before heading home.

Many hotels, resorts and pubs held grand celebrations, with DJs entertaining the crowds till late night.

A large number of police personnel were deployed along the Beach Road stretch. Traffic police teams were deployed to conduct drunken driving checks with body-worn cameras. Bakeries, biryani shops and liquor outlets saw long queue lines till late night, on New Year’s eve.

Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at Simhachalam, Sampath Vinayaka Temple in Assilmetta, Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Temple in Burujupeta and Sri Vaibhava Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Murali Nagar were flocked with hundreds of devotees throughout the day.

As most of the schools had announced holidays, children spent the day at parks and tourist places with their parents. Traffic congestions were reported at several places.
