The Telugu film ‘Ukku Satyagraham’ is inspired by the agitations and sacrifices of steel workers and leaders against the privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant(VSP), Satya Reddy, the hero, producer and director of the film, has said.
He watched a special screening of the film along with the CPI(M) leaders, trade union leaders and actors of the film at Chitralaya INOX, here on Friday.
The film captures the spirit of the struggle for establishment of the steel plant in Visakhapatnam for which 32 persons had sacrificed their lives. The film also features balladeer Gaddar, for whom this was his last film. The film was released 37 days ago in 150 theatres and it was still being screened successfully at many of the theatres.
The success reflects the sentiment of the people with the slogan ‘Visakha Ukku, Andhrula Hakku.’ He said that anti-privatisation agitations were being organised in a big way in the neighbouring States also, which was another reason for the success of the film, Mr. Satya Reddy told media persons after screening of the film.
Senior actor Prasanna Kumar, Nandi Award winner Vinay Prakash and Dhanusri played key roles in the film. The only way to stop privatisation was shown in the climax scene. Mr. Satya Reddy called upon people to stand united till the Centre announces withdrawal of the decision on privatisation.
Mr. Vinay Prakash said that Mr. Satya Reddy had so far produced 50 films, and this film was made without any desire for profit.
CPI(M) leaders Ganga Rao, R.K.S.V. Kumar, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Displaced Persons representative Narasinga Rao, U. Appa Rao and Congress leaders V. Srinivas and Majji Devisri were present.
