Tragic Explosion at Premier Explosives: One Dead, Several Injured | Hyderabad News

1 dead, several injured in major explosion at Premier Explosives

NEW DELHI: One person was killed and several others injured in a major explosion at Premier Explosives, a defence and commercial explosives supplier, in Peddakandukur, Yadadri Bhongir district, on Saturday morning.
Premier Explosives manufactures solid propellant fuel for India’s missile programmes, including Akash, Astra, and LRSAM, supplying materials to central government establishments such as the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).
The company also produces detonators and fuses for commercial use.
The incident occurred around 9:35 AM when a powerful blast rocked the factory premises, claiming the life of 55-year-old Kanakayya, who was working at the facility at the time. Another worker, identified as Prakash, sustained severe third-degree burns and was immediately rushed to Hyderabad for emergency medical treatment.
“Initial investigations suggest the explosion happened in the manufacturing unit where the deceased and other workers were present,” said P Ramesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Yadadri. “We have cordoned off the area and are working to determine the exact cause of the blast.”
According to Kumar, two other workers near the explosion site sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention at a local hospital in Bhongir.
The explosion drew hundreds of concerned villagers and the local MLA to the site. Police peacefully dispersed the crowd to facilitate emergency operations and investigation procedures.
Fire tenders were deployed to the scene, and police have sealed the premises for further investigation.
