Hyderabad: The city and the rest of Telangana are experiencing an intense cold wave, with temperatures plunging to single digits across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the cold conditions will persist for at least another week, with misty mornings and northeasterly winds amplifying the cold.
Sangareddy recorded the lowest temperature at 6° Celsius, followed by Adilabad at 6.2°C and Asifabad at 6.1°C. Rangareddy and Kamareddy saw temperatures of 6.8°C and 8.2°C, respectively. Medchal-Malkajgiri, a key suburb of Hyderabad, reported 8.5°C, while the city itself saw a low of 8.7°C, underscoring the widespread severity of the cold.
In addition to the cold, Adilabad also topped the state in rainfall, receiving 10 mm in the last 24 hours. Kamareddy recorded 0.5 mm, while other districts, including Sangareddy, Rangareddy, Asifabad, and Medchal-Malkajgiri, saw little to no rain.
“Partly cloudy skies, mist, and haze are expected in the mornings, with maximum and minimum temperatures ranging from 30°C to 13°C. Surface winds from the northeast are expected at 4-6 km/h,” the IMD officials states.
Authorities have urged residents to take extra care during the early morning and nighttime to avoid prolonged exposure to the cold.
