Justice K. Lakshman of Telangana High Court on Monday issued notices to the State government in a criminal petition filed by Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy of BRS seeking a direction to stay all proceedings in a case registered by police against him over his statement during his Assembly election campaign in 2023.
The Kamalapur police of Warangal Commissionerate issued a First Information Report (FIR) against him after a video surveillance team in-charge of Election Commission filed a complaint that he made a statement in an election meeting that he, his wife and daughter would end their lives if people did not vote for him. This amounted to an offence of causing undue influence in election, the complainant said.
The chargesheet was filed and eventually the case got transferred to a local court in Nampally for trial. At this stage, the MLA moved the HC for relief.
