Telangana BJP president and Union Minister of Coal & Mines G. Kishan Reddy has strongly condemned the ‘attack’ on the party’s State office on Exhibition Road in Nampally, Hyderabad allegedly by Youth Congress Party activists and questioned the need for such acts when the party MP concerned has already expressed regret over his remarks against Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, on Tuesday (January 7, 2025).
In a statement released to the media, Mr. Reddy maintained that ‘intolerance’ has no place in the democratic society and asserted that while the party was against any form of violence, but, any physical attack against the party will not be tolerated. “The attack on the party office only showcases the ‘deteriorating’ law and order situation in Telangana where ruling party goons are being unleashed against political and other opponents ever since the Congress has returned to power,” he said.
“This is a cowardly act and if the Congress does not change its strategy, it will be have to face repercussions. It is strange that Youth Congress activists were allowed to barge into our State office, throw stones and assault our partymen in the very presence of police personnel who remained mute spectators,” he charged.
The BJP leader observed that the ruling party, which is already facing pubic opprobrium over its ‘maladministration’ and ‘failure to implement promised guarantees’, is resorting to violent acts in frustration. It was also not possible that such an attack could have happened without the Chief Minister’s knowledge and warned that if the saffron party retaliates in kind, there will be no leaders left in the Congress across the country.
In a separate statement, general secretary K. Venkateshwarlu has termed it a ‘government raid’ and held the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud responsible for the violent act. He demanded that the perpetrators behind the crime be arrested and brought to trial. Union Minister of State for Home and former State chief Bandi Sanjay Kumar too condemned the attack on the party office.
HC decision welcomed
Meanwhile, party spokesperson N.V. Subash has welcomed Telangana High Court’s decision to dismiss the petition filed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president and MLA K.T. Rama Rao in the Formula-E case. But, he cautioned the Revanth Reddy-led government against potential accusations of political vendetta while pursuing the case.
KTR should cooperate fully with investigative agencies, including the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED), to clear his name if he has done no wrong. The onus was on the government to ensure that investigations are conducted transparently and without any scope for allegations of bias or vendetta, said a press release.
