Corrections in birth certificates issued by government maternity hospitals will be done in 48 hours, says child rights panel member


The correction of mistakes in birth certificates, issued by the Government Victoria Hospital (GVH), will hereafter would be done within 48 hours of applying for correction, according to Gondu Sitaram, member of the Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR).

The centre for correction of mistakes in birth certificates was inaugurated at GVH by Mr. Sitaram, GVH Superintendent Dr P. Usha, and Dr. Uppada Jeevan Satosh Kumar on Friday.

Mr. Sitaram said that as per the orders of the Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights(APSCPCR), the centre for issue of birth certificates at GVH has started correction of mistakes within 48 hours.

He said that at the review meeting APSCPCR held on November 31, last year, in the hospital premises, the concerns and difficulties of parents in view of the misspelling of names of parents, were discussed. He said that the commission has already given instructions to correct the mistakes within 48 hours of the receipt of applications. The new orders would benefit thousands of women, who come from neighbouring States like Odisha, and deliver at government hospitals in Visakhapatnam.

He said that Commission Chairperson Kesali Apparao has instructed the higher officials to set up similar special centres in all government maternity hospitals in the State for quick correction of mistakes in birth certificates, issued by those hospitals.
