Prepare for skill census in AP, Lokesh tells officials

Vijayawada: IT minister Nara Lokesh has directed officials to prepare for the launch of the skill census programme across the state. He emphasised that the skill census should be conducted efficiently, taking lessons from the pilot project in Mangalagiri.
Reviewing the procedures for the first-ever skill census in the country with officials from the skill development department on Friday, the minister stressed that the data collected should help create better opportunities for youth by addressing unemployment and skill gaps. “We need data from both the organised and unorganised sectors for an accurate picture of the skills needed,” Lokesh said.
The minister also highlighted that the TDP govt is providing training and job opportunities to skilled workers with its own funds. He encouraged the AP Skill Development Corporation to organise training programmes aimed at securing jobs for youth abroad, saying that a high demand for skilled workers in countries like the UAE, Europe, and Southeast Asia.
“Around two lakh people can be employed overseas if training is aligned with their requirements,” Lokesh added.
To further enhance employability, Lokesh suggested teaching languages such as German and Japanese in govt colleges.
