Hyderabad: Following the tragic drowning of five youths from Hyderabad at Kondapochamma Sagar reservoir in Siddipet, police are ramping up efforts to prevent visitors from entering the reservoir and lakes, particularly on weekends.
The Siddipet and Mulugu police have placed additional roadblocks and banners at key locations, reinforcing existing measures to warn the public against accessing prohibited areas.
New banners have also been installed by the Kukunoorpally police, highlighting the dangers, including deep water levels and the presence of crocodiles at the Mallanna Sagar reservoir in the district. Fishermen have been specifically instructed not to enter the water body.
Thoguta police have also erected banners in their jurisdiction, cautioning public against reservoir entry. At various entry points to the reservoirs, new banners have been added alongside the previously installed barricades, with police pickets deployed to enhance vigilance. Siddipet police commissioner B Anuradha confirmed that patrolling will be increased at Kondapochamma Sagar, Mallanna Sagar, Ranganayaka Sagar, Ananthagiri Project, Komati Cheruvu, Pandavula Cheruvu, Yellamma Cheruvu, and other lakes.
She also urged parents to keep their children away from these water bodies and stressed that the youths who drowned at Kondapochamma Sagar Reservoir on Jan 11 had entered the area without permission. Gajwel Rural CI Mahendar Reddy also advised fishermen to stay out of the water to ensure their safety.
