2 Strong Hybrid Maruti SUVs Launching This Year

India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki has a major focus on expanding its CNG and hybrid vehicle model lineup while also introducing its first electric vehicle this year. Currently, the Indo-Japanese automaker uses Toyota’s strong hybrid powertrain for the Grand Vitara midsize SUV and Invicto premium MPV. Now, Maruti Suzuki is developing its own hybrid system for its mass-market offerings, ready to debut with the Fronx facelift by mid 2025. The 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara SUV has also been planned for this year, but featuring Toyota’s series parallel hybrid setup. Here’s a brief on the two upcoming strong hybrid Maruti SUVs.

Maruti Fronx Facelift

The updated Fronx will mark debut of Maruti Suzuki’s own strong hybrid technology that will be offered with the Swift’s 1.2L Z-Series petrol engine. Compared to Toyota’s Atkinson cycle, this hybrid system will be significantly cost-effective. The carmaker plans to introduce its hybrid tech to its smaller and mid-level cars including Baleno, Swift, Brezza and an upcoming mini MPV. The 2025 Maruti Fronx strong hybrid will surely be high on fuel efficiency. If reports are to be believed, its mileage figure will be over 35kmpl. Furthermore, the Fronx is also rumoured to come with the ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite. The existing 90bhp, 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine might continue to be offered. Subtle cosmetic changes and feature upgrades are also expected.

Maruti Grand Vitara 7-Seater

Made-in-India Suzuki Grand Vitara

Maruti Suzuki plans to foray into the premium three-row SUV segment to challenge the Hyundai Alcazar and Tata Safari. This new SUV will be based on the Grand Vitara, sharing platform, powertrains, features and design elements. Codenamed Y17, the new Maruti 7-seater SUV will have a slightly longer rear overhang to accommodate an additional row of seats. Inside, the SUV might get differently designed dashboard along with a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system. While most features will be carried forward from the Grand Vitara, it will also be equipped with some extra features. The powertrain setup of the new Maruti Grand Vitara 7-seater will consist of a 103bhp, 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and 92hbp, 1.5L, 3-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol with electric motor setup.
