Hyderabad: The Supreme Court collegium has cleared the names of four senior district judges for elevation to the Telangana high court.
The collegium, which met on Jan 11, has approved the proposal sent by the Telangana HC in May last year to elevate senior district judges Renuka Yara, Narsing Rao Nandikonda, Tirumala Devi Eada and B R Madhusudan Rao as judges to the HC. The collegium recommendation was sent to the central govt and, once approved, they will be sworn in as judges of the high court.
Their appointment would take the current bench strength of the HC to 30. The sanctioned strength is 42 and this would leave 12 vacancies.
Though the high court had sent a list of four advocates too for elevation as judges in Dec 2023, which was subsequently approved by the SC collegium, the names are yet to be approved by the central govt. Even if the Centre appoints all four of them as judges, there will still be 8 vacancies in the HC.
