Vijayawada: The govt on Friday set up an inquiry authority to investigate allegations against former CID chief and senior IPS officer P V Sunil Kumar. Currently designated as director general of police (DGP) on waiting list, the 1992 batch IPS is facing disciplinary action from the govt.
The inquiry authority comprises of R P Sisodia, special chief secretary to revenue dept, who has been appointed as the inquiring authority, and Harish Kumar Gupta, director general of vigilance and enforcement, who has been named as the presenting officer.
Charges against Sunil Kumar were framed in Oct 2024. He is accused of misconduct for making comments on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) regarding an FIR filed at Nagarampalem police station in Guntur district. The actions are alleged to be in violation of rule 7 of the AIS (Conduct) Rules, 1968. The officer denied the allegations and requested the charges be dropped. The appointed authority has been instructed to expedite the probe and submit a detailed report at the earliest.
