Elevated Corridor Threatens Temples, Houses

Hyderabad: The proposed elevated corridor in Secunderabad Cantonment has raised concerns among Hindu devotees and temple committees, as approximately 25 temples are located on the proposed route.

T.N. Murari, member of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti (BGUS), said: “The sentiments of Hindu devotees must be respected, and the government should take all necessary steps to ensure that the temples are not harmed during the construction process.”

He said any disruption to these sacred sites was unacceptable and would not be tolerated by the community.

Prakash Babu, BGUS member, said there must be adequate consultation with and assurances to, stakeholders before proceeding with the project. He urged the Hindu community to unite in protecting their places of worship.

BGUS executive officer Chandra Reddy said that the committees planned to continue dialogue with the government to find a solution that balances infrastructure development with cultural and religious preservation.

The elevated corridor project, connecting Paradise Junction to Kandlakoya and Vikrampuri to Mandaipalle, is a joint initiative by the SCB and the HMDA.

The project includes a proposed tunnel beneath the Begumpet airport at Tadbund junction. Airport authorities have given tentative approval, provided it is built away from the operational runway.

Residents have expressed mixed reactions, with some concerned about the potential demolition of houses and commercial complexes, while others view the development as beneficial for future generations.
