Expert panel suggests reforms in APPSC recruitment process | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: A recently submitted report by an expert committee has highlighted critical systemic issues that are significantly affecting the effectiveness and efficiency of the recruitment process of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC).
These issues are not only frustrating aspirants but also impacting governance, underscoring the urgent need for structural reforms. The committee emphasized that addressing these challenges is essential to ensure that APPSC operates optimally, delivers timely and transparent recruitment, and meets the expectations of both candidates and the govt.
The committee’s findings revealed that APPSC is plagued by substantial delays in issuing notifications for direct recruitment across various services, including Group-I, Group-II, Group-III, Group-IV, and other technical services. These delays have led to growing dissatisfaction among candidates, particularly due to age bar restrictions and increasing calls for raising the upper age limit. The prolonged recruitment process, which sometimes takes up to five years from notification to final selection, has also resulted in a backlog of vacancies and a surge in litigation, further delaying the timely filling of critical public service positions.
The committee, led by special chief secretary Budithi Rajasekhar, said that APPSC lacks a clear, coordinated job calendar or recruitment schedule, contributing to confusion and inefficiency. The involvement of multiple agencies, including APPSC, DSC, and departmental boards, further complicates the system, leading to overlapping recruitment efforts and administrative bottlenecks.
Furthermore, absence of a dedicated IT wing at APPSC has hindered its ability to streamline the recruitment process, track applications.
