1995 Maruti Esteem restoration: Satisfied with how the car is running

I must say, it is a very refined engine. Indeed very quiet for something that was designed 3 decades ago.

Update:

So after my last post, I finally got the chance to attend the Esteem. I sent it over to my mechanic to change the engine oil, oil filter, brake fluid and coolant. He also gave the carb a nice tune-up, after which, cold starts are a lot easier, driving in the city feels a lot smoother and the car no longer stalls randomly.

Up next, I replaced the patchy exhaust system. No more sounding like an old lawn mower. I can finally hear the original engine note. I must say, it is a very refined engine. Indeed very quiet for something that was designed 3 decades ago. Was happy to note that there is no noise from any of the bearings either.

Took the car for a spin and was happy with the way it was driving. Got a little carried away and spun the wheels on the tarmac a few times.

This didn’t end very well for the front two tyres, which had to be replaced with new ones:

A few current pictures of the car. Honestly, I am fine with the ratty appearance of the car. It’s a 30-year-old Maruti at the end of the day and looks like it’s in its “raw, natural” form. A cosmetic restoration is surely on the cards, but at the moment, the fact that it runs well satisfies me. Will be back with more updates whenever something new gets done with it.
