Six killed in ghastly road accident near Warangal

At least six people including a child have been killed in a major road mishap that occurred on the Warangal-Khammam highway near Mamunur in the district on Sunday (January 26, 2025). The incident reportedly occurred when an iron-laden lorry lost control and rammed into two autorickshaws carrying passengers, causing the iron bars to fall on the vehicles.

According to locals, the lorry overturned on the side of the road and fell on the autos, killing seven people on the spot. However, the official death toll has been confirmed as six. The condition of three others injured in the accident is critical, and they have been shifted to MGM Hospital in Warangal.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the lorry driver may have been under the influence of alcohol. Locals reported that the same lorry had hit an auto carrying urea bags just 10 minutes before the fatal accident. The deceased are Santosh, Pooja, Kiran, and Mukesh, all migrant farm labourers from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh.

Warangal Collector Satya Sharda Devi and Police Commissioner Ambar Kishor Jha visited the accident site to assess the situation. Traffic on the Warangal-Khammam highway was disrupted for about two hours. Police have taken steps to restore traffic by removing the iron bars and vehicles using heavy cranes.
