120bhp Tata Altroz Racer Launching Soon; Testing Begins

Tata’s Altroz Racer has been grabbing attention since its debut at this year’s Auto Expo. This variant, a sportier rendition of the Altroz hatchback, boasts noticeable cosmetic upgrades both inside and out. While there’s no official release date yet, insiders anticipate the Altroz Racer to hit the market in the first half of 2024. Excitingly, Tata has already commenced road testing for this model, and a recent sighting in Ooty captured one of the test prototypes, meticulously camouflaged to conceal its design details, albeit the hand-scribbled ‘Racer’ emblem on the engine. The most significant highlight of the Tata Altroz Racer is its engine, a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol powerhouse. This unit claims to generate 120 bhp and deliver 170 Nm of torque, surpassing the Altroz iTurbo by 10 bhp and 30 Nm of torque. Remarkably, it even outperforms the Hyundai i20 N Line in terms of torque by 2 Nm while maintaining an equivalent power output. The transmission duties are expertly managed by a 6-speed manual gearbox.

On the inside, the Altroz Racer offers a revamped 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring updated software. The model also features a fresh 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, an air purifier, and a comprehensive safety package with six airbags. Eye-catching elements include the new all-black upholstery, adorned with contrasting red stitching, and distinctive red and white stripes with ‘Racer’ embossing on the head restraints, adding to its sporty character and appeal.

Notably, the Tata Altroz Racer stands out as the first Altroz variant to feature an electrically adjustable sunroof equipped with voice control. It proudly displays ‘Racer’ badging on the front fenders, a blacked-out roof, and a bonnet adorned with twin white racing stripes. The front end exudes elegance with a chrome bar spanning its width and an elegant blacked-out treatment on the headlamps. While the alloy wheels maintain a familiar design, the all-black finish gives them a distinctive touch. At the rear, the model boasts a more pronounced rear spoiler and a shark fin antenna, completing its sportier appearance.
