Hyderabad: A 28-year-old student from Hyderabad, Mohd Wajid, died in a road accident in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, on Jan 28.
Wajid, who had moved to the US four years ago for higher studies, was reportedly working part-time. His family resides in MS Maqta of Khairatabad.
The accident occurred when Wajid, driving a semi-truck, failed to stop at a stop sign at an intersection and collided with another truck hauling grain. According to Iowa state police, he was rushed to the hospital but did not survive. The other driver, Timothy Wilkin, escaped unhurt.
The crash, which happened at 12:42 pm, caused a fire in nearby fields, but it was quickly extinguished.
Expressing grief, Telangana Congress secretary Mohammad Shahabuddin called Wajid’s death a loss to the Congress family. “We lost a dear friend and colleague in a tragic accident in the USA,” he posted on ‘X’.
Wajid was an active leader of the Youth Congress in Khairatabad and a member of the NRI Minority Congress Committee in the US.
