Hyderabad/Panaji: Telugu film producer and distributor Sunkara Krishna Prasad Chowdary, out on bail in a drug case, ended his life at his rented flat in Siolim in north Goa on Monday. Local police said he had been living alone in the flat for the past six months.
A one-page suicide note found from his bedroom stated that “nobody should be blamed” for his suicide, police said.
Chowdary (44), an engineering graduate who hailed from Khammam district, came into prominence after he released the Telugu version of Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Kabali’ in 2016. He was also a distributor for Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Sardar Gabbar Singh’ as well as for ‘Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’, starring Venkatesh and Mahesh Babu.
On Monday, Chowdary did not respond to phone calls from his friends, following which they alerted the owner of the flat. The owner went to check on Chowdary and found him dead. He alerted police, who informed Chowdary’s mother living in Palvancha, Khammam.
Goa Police registered a case of unnatural death, and Chowdary’s body was sent to Goa Medical College, Bambolim, for post-mortem examination.
Chowdary had been arrested in June 2023 by Cyberabad police in connection with a drug case. Though he had relocated to Goa — where he reportedly owned a pub — before his arrest, he frequently visited Hyderabad. During one such trip, police found the contraband in his car during routine checking. Cops had seized 90 sachets of cocaine weighing 82.75 gms, Rs. 2.05 lakh cash, his Mercedes and mobile phones, all worth Rs 78.5 lakh.
Chowdary had allegedly brought the drugs for his consumption and also to supply to his friends. He was subsequently released on bail. A chargesheet in the case had already been filed in the court, but the trial was yet to begin, a Cyberabad cop said.
