As Delhiites cast their votes today in the 2025 Legislative Assembly elections, anticipation builds around the forthcoming exit polls. The Delhi Election results will be announced on February 8, Saturday. But before the elections, exit polls will predict the mood of the national capital soon after the voting concludes on Wednesday.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has established extensive arrangements to facilitate smooth voting, with 1.56 crore eligible voters expected to exercise their franchise. This includes 83.76 lakh male voters, 72.36 lakh female voters, and 1,267 transgender voters. Additionally, 733 polling stations have been specially designated to assist persons with disabilities, ensuring an inclusive voting process.

What are exit polls?

Exit polls are the early surveys of the voters, which are conducted soon after they cast their ballots to know the pulse of the constituency. Although inaccurate, it helps the public to predict which party is leading the polls and has the possibility of coming into power. The reliability of exit polls is influenced by multiple factors, including voter’s honesty with answers, margin of error, and sample size. While the exit polls help gauge the verdict, it should be mentioned that they are not always correct.

According to the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (Section 126A), exit polls cannot be conducted or publicised until voting concludes. This regulation ensures that exit polls do not influence voter decisions during the polling process.

According to ECI guidelines, media outlets are permitted to publish or broadcast exit poll results only after the conclusion of voting across all phases in a state. Given that Delhi’s election is a single-phase eventexit polls are expected to be released shortly after polling ends today.
